January 2017… where did the time go?

Well, here it is January of 2017! I haven’t done much posting… things were a little non-BBQ related for November and part of December but since Christmas there has been some activity!

It’s my very own Humphrey’s Smoker ~ the Weekender!   It’s movable with two strong people, it’s going to be a great addition to our team of Humphrey’s Smokers.  We are pretty excited about getting some good practice on it these upcoming months.

New Year’s Eve brought together some great teams to do a cook for the Father Bill’s & MainSpring House in Brockton, MA.  We, along with Rhode Hog BBQ – Chris & Joan Clegg, Tactical Chef – Brian & Susan Martin (if you want to find out how to be more active in supporting your local VFW, ask this guy!) , and Yabba Dabba Que! – Cindi & Eric Mitchell (buy his books!)  provided 200+ meals of pulled pork, baked beans, cole slaw, and desserts to those in need. “Father Bill’s is committed to ending and preventing homelessness in Southern Massachusetts with programs that provide emergency and permanent housing and help people obtain skills, jobs, housing, and services. We help people who are struggling with homelessness or are at risk of homelessness to achieve self-sufficiency.” (directly from their website)  There’s a few pictures from that day – HERE.  We are planning out our #giving for next year – we hope to have more teams and businesses involved to feed even more people.  If you want to be a part of the next adventure, please reach out!

And we will finish off this post with an update from the Northeast Barbecue Society Team of the Year Awards! The NEBS Annual Meeting was transformed a bit this year; in previous years the Team of the Year Awards were done at the Harvard Fall Festival, unfortunately, that contest is now cancelled. 😦 So, we moved the awards to the Annual Meeting / Banquet.  Being in New England our attendance was under expectation due to the beautiful (insert sarcasm here) snowy day we all enjoyed on January 7th.  But still a number of teams and members trudged through the weather and attended.  We were thrilled with our two awards for the year….

2016 was a great year and we couldn’t have done it without our friends at Humphrey’s Smokers and KettlePizza along with all the support of friends and family!

Here’s to a FUN and EXCITING 2017!

Oh, and I can’t forget this…..  0109170852 it was a great honor to be recognized by our outgoing President, Jared Huizenga; thank you…..  Working with the team of NEBS is easy when so many great people are involved!

OOPS! One more thing….. we made #BACON on Sunday! #YUM This was done on the new smoker, the Weekender. This may be their smallest smoker, but it held temp like the big boy’s. Dialed in at 210 and held with no guru or other probes.
